I think it’s about time we start taking care of those in our own communities rather than focusing so much of our resources outside of the country. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for humanitarianism and helping those who are in dire need of resources, but at the same time we have many problems on our own soil that needs tending to as well. Last year, the city of Chicago alone had over 415 murders and over 500 the year before that. Schools are being shut down nationwide due to lack of funding but yet millions of dollars are being invested into building prisons. Homelessness is on the rise and I read an article today that stated that gun violence is on track to surpass car accidents as the leading cause of death in young people. There are children here that need a home, there are people starving here that need food, there are youth that grow up in warzones in cities all over America, buildings that need to be repaired, streets that need to be cleaned, and more. These are only a fraction of the issues that exist so why is there no serious action being taken to fix these like there is for places outside of our country? We need to help each other. If you have extra money or resources that you’re looking to use for a good cause, please donate them to organizations in your own communities before sending them abroad or at the very least distribute an even amount to your community and somewhere abroad.
