A couple great minds over the past year have been reinforcing the necessity of knowledge of self to me. And not the cool packaged kind for $19.95, or whatever–no, real knowledge of self. The kind that only develops after innumerable hours of researching, dialogue, and reflection. These great minds took the time to remind me that other avenues taken in the interest of liberation have not worked, and are simply not the answers. And yet, these are the same avenues we continue to push for. Why?
Most teachers and leaders offer no truly sensible solutions, no new information, and no direction. The same propaganda has been promulgated for decades but has yet to bring about that highly sought after change. Followers are encouraged to listen, buy products and lend their support, yet they fail to help cultivate the seeds of critical thinking and objective analysis that lie dormant in most of our minds–rendering our conversations fruitless and actions futile at our own expense. Which in itself should make you question whose interests they are really serving.
The change that many of us are looking for cannot be made within this current system. It is against its very nature. This system is not one that respects humanity, it dehumanizes and devalues. Our worth is measured by what we have, not who we are. The solutions will come once we all achieve the same level of understanding of what it is we’re dealing with. Change has to be initiated from within each of us. But, we all have to collectively define what change that is–undefined goals are counterproductive. Until then, we will be trapped in this vicious cycle for generations to come.
Things happen in life. Things that are totally out of our control. At times, we allow these things to stagnate us and hinder us from moving forward. Or, we allow distractions to get the best of us, causing us to get sidetracked for a period of time. We even allow our own doubts, fears, and insecurities to come between us and whatever it is we’re hoping to get accomplished. The key to overcoming each of these obstacles is to stay focused. Develop a sort of tunnel vision and only acknowledge what you CHOOSE to. You might be asking, “how the hell do you CHOOSE to acknowledge something?” By choosing what we acknowledge, we are keeping full control of our lives and not being stagnated by external forces. Nothing can hinder our growth if we don’t allow it to. Always be consciously aware of what’s going on around you so that you can handle it accordingly rather than letting it control you. We may stop and smell the roses and venture off our paths from time to time, but never lose sight of the bigger picture.
Point blank period. Whether it’s street smarts or book smarts, some form of education is required to get anywhere. This quote is self-explanatory and the truth is self-evident so there’s no need to elaborate any further. This also ties in perfectly with my previous post.
More wisdom from the legend Bruce Lee. Keep planting the seeds, now, so you can harvest the fruits of your labor, later. Interpret the quote however you will. Peace.
Beautiful poem. I wish I could’ve watched this show while it was still on the air. Anyways, lend your ears as Black Ice delivers a smooth, insightful poem breaking down the struggles of the black community in America.
Many great historical figures are trying to tell us something. What will it take for us to realize our full potential? Inside each of us lies the power to become anything and everything we aspire to be. Peace & Love
Know the difference. Many people talk just to stroke their ego and have no sincere intention to say anything of value to you. Some of them can get away with it due to their charismatic personality but don’t let that fool you. Pay more attention to the message rather than the man. Peace & Love.
